A new Gallup Poll out Wednesday showed 51% of republicans now support the legalization of marijuana. This marks the first time in history the traditionally conservative republican party has swung in favor of the flower.
Overall two thirds of Americans or 64% support full cannabis legalization which marks the highest percentage since the poll began in 1969. That year only 12% of Americans overall were in favor of marijuana legalization. One thing also interesting to note is the rapid change of heart by Republicans when in 2004 only 20% of the party favored the legalization movement. It seems as the scientific and economic benefits rise so does the interest of the conservative party.
